It was the first warm Saturday in what felt like months, so we decided to make an afternoon trip up to Red Butte Garden. It turned out to be the best idea we had had in a while. For the past few years I keep trying to make it to the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point for my birthday. Last year we made it as far as the lobby, but turned around quickly after a sudden migraine combined with cold winds and way too many people turned us off. This year, we decided to try out Red Butte Garden as an early birthday activity.

At first, we  thought that maybe we had planned this trip a little too early in the year since some of the flowers and the herb gardens still had the remains of a rough winter and weren’t showing signs of spring yet. Near the end of our tour we were pleasantly surprised to find that the daffodils, the roses and even some tulips were in bloom. Not to mention the newly green grass and some trees that made all of the flowers in bloom just pop with color.

My absolute favorite part of the day came after we smelled so many varieties of honeysuckle, Chris told me as soon as we have a garden we can plant some. Woohoo! So glad he’s on the honeysuckle train with me. I have loved them since we had honeysuckle growing in our backyard over by the pool in San Diego.  It made our trip just that more special knowing Red Butte Garden holds a few surprises like  tropical/sub-tropical flowers. As it turns out, most varieties of honeysuckle are very winter hardy. Who knew? Just one more flower to add to our future garden list.

I decided to throw on a light sweatshirt last minute (in case of potential cold windy gusts), jeans, tennis shoes and hat (for the first time in a long time). I hardly ever wear hats, so when I do, I think it weirds Chris out a bit so he kept telling me to take my hat off in every picture. You’ll see my carrying my hat in a few pictures below.

Take a trip up to Red Butte Garden on a Saturday in the Spring and you won't be disappointed.
